Patients with braces must follow a strict oral hygiene routine. Gently brush each bracket and floss between them to remove food particles and prevent plaque buildup. Neglecting proper hygiene can lead to an increased risk of cavities and permanent white spots on your teeth.
Braces
Braces are probably the first thing that comes to mind when you think about orthodontic treatment. That’s great, because braces are one of the most common and effective ways of straightening teeth – and they are more discreet and comfortable than ever.
How do braces work?
Braces use brackets and wires to shift your teeth into the desired position. These corrective devices will put pressure on your teeth and slowly move them in the proper positions.
Problems braces can treat
Braces are a great option for patients of all ages. This is because braces is very effective at addressing:
- Crooked or overcrowded teeth
- Irregular spacing in between teeth
- Irregular bites (overbite, underbite, crossbite)
- Protruding upper teeth
- Asymmetry
Types of braces we offer
At Marvel Orthodontics, we offer our patients metal braces, clear braces.
Metal braces
Metal braces tend to be what most people think of when they think of orthodontic treatment. These braces consist of small metal brackets attached to your individual teeth with an archwire connecting them.
Metal braces are an effective treatment for major and minor orthodontic cases. At your initial consultation with us we can talk you through your treatment options, and if metal braces are one of them, we will explain further how this method works.
Clear braces
Clear braces are a discreet orthodontic treatment option which work the same way as traditional metal braces do. The difference is that clear braces use tooth-coloured brackets that blend in beautifully with the colour of your smile.
Clear braces are a popular choice among our adult patients because it is not immediately obvious that you are wearing braces. This is particularly beneficial for many patients in client-facing jobs.
What to expect during treatment with braces
Before you start treatment with braces we will need to do an assessment of your smile. Then we can fit you with braces tailored to your smile needs. You will visit our practice every four to eight weeks for an adjustment and to ensure your treatment is progressing as planned.
How to look after your braces
On the day your braces are fitted, we will provide detailed guidance on what foods to avoid. Generally, it’s best to steer clear of sticky and hard foods, such as bubblegum and popcorn, as these can damage or dislodge your brackets.
